According to an article on Health.com and a new study in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, young children who watch a lot of TV are missing out on more than just time on the playground. Children may also be setting themselves up for problems at school and unhealthy habits as they age. Every additional hour of TV that children watch per week translates to poorer classroom behavior, lower math scores , less physical activity, and increased snacking at age 10, the study says.
The American Academy of Pediatrics makes these recommendations:
- Children under age 2 watch no television at all
- Children 2+ years watch no more than one to two hours of quality television a day
Flashbacks of “only educational shows, Rachel” are coming into my head…
