Soft-Drink Sales Down — Energy Drinks and Flavored and Enhanced Water Keep the Category Afloat

reports that the entire beverage category declined 3% in 2008, dragged down by the carbonated soft drinks segment which has been sliding for the past four years. The only bright spot was in the flavored and enhanced water and energy drink segments which gained 8.3% and 9% respectively. Industry observers say the economy had only a modest impact on declining soft drink sales. The entire industry was down 2%.
